The Luna Castle is one of the most representative and fascinating monuments in Sciacca.

This medieval castle has a rich and dramatic history, closely linked to the events of the powerful noble families of Sicily and the legends that have fascinated visitors for centuries.

The Luna Castle was built in the fourteenth century by the Luna family, one of the most powerful noble families of the Kingdom of Sicily. The construction of the castle was commissioned by Guglielmo Peralta, an important member of the family, who wanted to consolidate the power of his lineage in the region.

Over the centuries, the castle has been the scene of numerous historical events, but the most famous episode is linked to the "Matrimonio di sangue," a tragic event that left an indelible mark on the history of Sciacca. In 1354, a feud took place between the Perollo and Luna families, two of the most influential families in the city. This rivalry culminated in a bloodbath during a wedding, where the guests were massacred. This event, known as "La Cursa di San Calò," became a legend that has crossed the centuries, and the castle is still associated with this story of revenge and tragedy.

The Luna Castle is located on a promontory overlooking the city of Sciacca and offers a spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea. The original structure of the castle was impressive, with high defensive walls, watchtowers, and a large inner courtyard. However, over the centuries, the castle has suffered damage and modifications, and today only some parts of the original building remain.

Among the parts still visible are the main tower, some sections of the perimeter walls, and the Church of Santa Margherita, which was part of the complex. Despite the decay of some parts, the castle still retains its medieval charm and continues to evoke the stories and legends of the past.

Today, the Luna Castle is open to visitors and is one of the main tourist attractions in Sciacca. During the visit, you can explore the remains of the walls, climb the main tower to enjoy the panoramic view, and immerse yourself in the historical atmosphere that surrounds this ancient building.
